Skating

The Township of Scugog offers ice programs for all ages. All skate programs are drop-in and no longer require pre-registration. You can purchase a 10-ticket or 20-ticket pass online for skate programs. 

Program Descriptions and Fees

All skate program fees listed below include the HST. 

Skate at your own risk in a adult-only environment. Helmets are recommended. This program is not supervised. 

Adult (18+): $5.00

Senior (55+): $3.50

An open skate for all ages. Helmets recommended for all ages. Helmets required for ages 6 and under. Adult supervision required for children 7 years and under. This program is staff supervised. 

All ages: $5.00

Senior (55+): $3.50

Family: $14.50
Family admission valid for up to 2 adults and 3 children. Members must reside within the same household. 

Slower paced environment for young skaters. Parent and/or guardian must provide on-ice supervision. One parent/guardian per child at no cost. Stick and pucks are not permitted. Helmets are recommended but required for ages 6 and under. This program is not staff supervised. 

Pair of 1 Parent and 1 Tot: $4.00

Extra Child and/or Guardian: $4.00 

Play hockey just for fun at a game organized by the participants, with no contact. This program is only supervised by staff during youth shinny. Nets are on the ice for this program. Full equipment required.  

Youth 17 and under: $5.00
Adult (18-54): $8.00
Senior (55+): $6.00 

An inclusive skate with lower lighting, no music, smaller groups of skaters and the allowance of mobility devices (wheelchairs, skate aids, sledges) on the ice. 

All ages: $5.00

Senior (55+): $3.50

Family: $14.50

Work on the fundamentals of hockey and improve your skills. Helmets are required. No contact, game play, or slap shots. Adult supervision is required for children 7 years and under at a ratio of one adult per three children. No nets permitted. 

All ages: $4.00
Senior (55+): $3.50

A controlled scrimmage of hockey. Full equipment and helmets required. No contact or raising of the puck. This program is not staff supervised. No nets permitted. 

Senior (55+): $3.50

Pay as you go program designed for figure skaters. Must be a Skate Canada member and accompanied by a coach before participating in the program. Proof of membership required. This program is not staff supervised. 

All ages: $8.00

Skate Rules

Public Skate

  • Children 9 years and under must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian 14 years or older
  • Skaters should be in a constant flow during public skating and travel in the same direction as all skaters
  • No food or drink on the ice surface
  • No horseplay/games
  • No skating backwards
  • No figure skating maneuvers
  • No erratic/excessive speed skating
  • No balls/pucks/chairs/sticks or any other item which may interfere with the safety of any skater while on the ice surface
  • No headsets, cell phones or hand held electronic devices are to be used while skating
  • No carrying of children is permitted
  • No strollers are permitted
  • No sitting on the boards
  • All participants must be wearing skates while on the ice surface
  • The use of CSA Approved helmets designed for ice skating are strongly recommended
  • The use of approved skating aids will be permitted on the ice during applicable general public skating programs
  • Excluding helmets, hockey equipment is not permitted
  • Wheelchairs are permitted on the ice surface once the wheels have been cleaned
  • Persons accompanying those in wheelchairs or ice sledges must wear skates and be skilled skaters
  • Township Staff are to be respected and are responsible for enforcement of rules at all times

Stick and Puck

  • Pucks will not be raised above the knee and shooting the puck with excessive force will not be permitted (slap shots)
  • There are no goalies or nets on the ice
  • CSA approved helmets are required

Shinny

  • Shooting the puck with excessive force will not be permitted
  • Physical contact is not permitted
  • Goalies are permitted on the ice, provided they are wearing full goalie gear
  • CSA approved helmets are required
  • Hockey equipment is strongly recommended (required for youth shinny)

Parent and Tot

  • Children must be 6-years of age or younger to participate in this program
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult on the ice surface
  • Adults must be at a ratio of no more than 3 children to each adult
  • No carrying of children is to be permitted

There are no skating programs on September 30, October 13, November 11, April 3, April 5, or April 6. See alternative schedules for Winter Break, March Break, PA Days and Family Day.

Skating Events

Lace up and join the fun! Our skate events turn the rink into a celebration. Every event brings a new reason to hit the ice and make memories with friends and family.

The Township of Scugog in partnership with North Durham Pride is excited to bring back a free and inclusive skate this February at the Scugog Arena. Enjoy a fun free public skate with music, activities and local resources promoting inclusivity of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Participants are encouraged to wear bright and colourful attire to this skate. We're turning down the lights, turning up the music and handing out glow sticks to let the rink sparkle and shine.

Event Highlights

  • Live performances by Drag Queens/Kings

Skate Time and Location

  • Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Scugog Arena.

  • Skating runs from 12:30-1:50 p.m.

  • Off-ice activities run from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Public skate is an open skate for all ages. Helmets are required for children aged 6 years and younger but recommended for all ages. Adult supervision is required for children aged 7 years and under. The program has a maximum capacity of 160. Staff will allow admission until capacity is reached.
